Ferrule / Flow Thru - General Information
General Specifications
Bonding Agents
To hold the component parts of the brush together: ferrule, plug and fill. Depth of penetration into the filament is controlled according to brush function.
Epoxy
An air-cured material with a water absorption rate of less than 2%. Used primarily where expansion due to liquid absorption is to be held to a minimum. For wet applications, epoxy is generally used with synthetic fill. Resistant to most solvents.
Plugs or Inserts
The plug is used to vary brush density as needed for the application. It may have holes in it to permit through feeding of liquids, air, or fine powders. Usually made of wood but can be made from plastic or metal.
Handles
Handles can be supplied to fit most types and sizes of ferrules. Hardwoods are most commonly used for their durability, appearance and machinability. Metal handles can be used as electrical conductors to allow mechanical attaching and to incorporate pneumatic or fluid flow devices. Plastic handles can be used where quantities are large enough for injection molding. They allow great flexibility of design for either function or merchandising appeal. Handles can be stamped with customer name or part number.
Fill Material
Hog bristle, horsehair, all synthetics, tampico fiber and fine wires.
Ferrule Materials
Plastics, brass, nickel-tin, stainless and copper.
